In many ways, Lucas Goeller is like many other kids his age. He is one of four children, close to his family and loves to hunt and fish and be outdoors. Lucas, however, is also waiting for a second miracle in the form of a liver transplant.
Lucas was just 2 when he received his first liver transplant from 3-year-old Olivia Swedberg. Olivia’s family found Lucas through a public campaign run by the Goeller family, which included 25 billboards donated by Lamar Advertising and Facebook posts. When she saw Lucas’ photos, Olivia’s mom said she knew her terminally ill daughter could live on in him.
The Goellers are following a similar strategy this time around. The “Save Lucas” Facebook page now has over 90,000 followers. Through its work spreading awareness, the campaign has inspired hundreds of people across the country to register as organ donors.
Lucas is one of more than 7,000 Pennsylvanians in need of a lifesaving transplant and one of more than 100,000 nationwide. About 300 children are in need of a liver transplant. Learn how to register to be an organ donor today!
