Heart Recipient
I have been volunteering with the Center for Organ Recovery and Education since my transplant 16 years ago. I feel obligated to give back to say, ‘Thank you.’
In 1989, I suffered my first heart attack in the ICU after attending a friend’s wedding. This heart attack left my heart with less than 25-percent function. Throughout the upcoming years, I was suffering many heart spasms and mini heart attacks. In 1995, doctors decided that a heart transplant was my only hope.
On July 16, 2014, my life was saved. I received a call from my wife saying the doctors found me a heart. I got into the car and raced home. I almost made it when a cop pulled me over for speeding. I tried to explain to him that I had a heart waiting for me at the hospital and needed to be there as soon as possible. Fortunately, he let me slide considering my circumstances. I was in the hospital for two weeks after my transplant.
Thanks to my donor Josh, I can live life to the fullest. Words cannot describe how blessed I am to be saved by Josh.
