Beatriz’s son, Sebastian Foster, was born with a lower urinary tract obstruction which left him with irreversible damage to his kidneys. At the age of 4 Sebastian began dialysis, which lasted up to 11 hours a day. Sebastian wasn’t able to be an active 4-year-old without a new kidney.
Sebastian’s life was transformed in 2020 when he received a life-saving kidney transplant at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Thanks to the generosity of a donor here and their family, Sebastian is now a healthy and active young boy. With his new kidney, he was able to participate in the 2022 Donate Life Transplant Games of America and the 26th Annual Gift of Life Donor Dash this past April.
Beatriz is an active advocate for Gift of Life. “None of this would be possible without the generosity of his donor,” she said.
This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate Sebastian and Beatriz for inspiring others to give the gift of life. You can be a hero for kids like Sebastian. Learn how by visiting https://donatelifepa.org/about-donation/
