Pennsylvania leads in life-saving organ donations and transplants
Pennsylvania has a tradition of being a leader in healing and saving lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. In 2022, thanks to generous organ donors, more than 1,800 transplants took place, providing thousands with a second chance at life. It’s all thanks to the tireless work of the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) and the Gift of Life Donor Program.
For the past 15 years, Pennsylvania’s Gift of Life Donor Program has led the U.S. in life-saving organ donations, thanks to its dedicated staff, hospital partners and generous community. In 2022, Gift of Life coordinated the most organ donors and the most organs for transplant among all 57 organ procurement organizations in the country.
For the fourth year in a row, CORE achieved a record-breaking year for organ, tissue and cornea donation across western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Chemung County, New York. With the generosity of hundreds of donors and their families, CORE achieved a 23% increase in organ transplants, with 858 life-saving transplants made possible by 334 organ donors.
One organ donor can save the lives of eight people by donating organs and heal the lives of more than 75 people through tissue donation. Make a difference by registering as an organ, tissue and cornea donor today.
