James McGowan
Young boy can now see, thanks to cornea donation
Jacob Grady was described as “larger than life” by those who knew him closest. But after a sledding accident, Jacob sadly passed away at the age of 21-years-old. As a registered organ donor, his desire to give back carried on.
Jacob was able to donate his heart, liver, kidneys, tissue, veins and more through the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE).
Thanks to Jacob’s gift, seven-year-old James McGowan is now able to see. After four corneal surgeries, James has made tremendous progress, gaining the ability to see better and better with each surgery. The Grady’s have had the chance to witness James’ successful surgeries and progress over the years.
“When we met the family, that grieving turned into a sense of joy,” said James McGowan, James’s father. “They felt like their son made such a great impact, and they were able to see that. We know for a fact that there’s nothing, but good that comes out of it.”
